Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 4, 2026

Phoenix ("Phoenix", "we", "us") is a mobile app that helps people recover after a breakup. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. Questions: support@phoenixbreakup.tech.

The short version. No email or password is required — you start with an anonymous account tied to your device. What you share is processed only to run the features you use, and is never sold. The companion's replies are generated by an AI service run by Anthropic; we ask for your permission in the app, and show you exactly what is sent, before any of it leaves your device (see section 2).

1. What we collect

Information you give us

Information collected automatically

2. AI processing and the data we share with Anthropic

Your consent comes first. Phoenix asks for your explicit permission inside the app, on a screen that names Anthropic and lists every field below, before any of your data is sent to an AI service. Nothing is transmitted until you tap to agree. If you decline, the rest of the app still works, and you can withdraw at any time under You → AI and your data.

Who receives the data

The companion and the chapter reports are generated by Claude, an AI model operated by Anthropic PBC, a company based in the United States (Anthropic's privacy policy). Calls are made from our secure server, never from your device, so the model provider's API key is never exposed. Anthropic is the only AI provider Phoenix uses.

What data is sent

What is never sent

How it is used, and how it is protected

This data is used for one purpose only: generating your companion's replies, your chapter report letters, and the automated safety check described below. It is never sold, never used for advertising, and never shared with any other AI service. Under our commercial agreement with Anthropic, your conversations are not used to train AI models, Anthropic acts only as our processor on our instructions, and Anthropic is contractually required to protect this data with safeguards equal to those described in this policy.

For your safety, every message first passes an automated safety check, also run by Claude. If it suggests a crisis, the app shows human support resources (like 988) instead of an AI reply, and we record only a content-free timestamp — never the message itself — to keep support mode on.

3. What we do NOT do

4. Service providers

ProviderPurpose
SupabaseDatabase, authentication, and secure server functions
Anthropic PBC (Claude)AI companion replies, chapter reports, and safety classification — only after you consent in the app (see §2)
PostHogProduct analytics and feature flags
RevenueCatSubscription management
Apple / GoogleApp distribution and payment processing

Each provider processes data only as needed to provide their service to us.

5. Storage, retention, and deletion

Your data is stored in secured cloud infrastructure and linked to an anonymous account created on your device. Because the account is anonymous, deleting the app breaks the link between you and the data permanently — nothing in it identifies you by name.

You can permanently delete your account and all its data at any time from inside the app: Profile → Settings → Delete account. If you no longer have the app, visit our account deletion page or email support@phoenixbreakup.tech with your User ID (so we can identify your anonymous account) and we will erase it within 30 days.

6. Your rights

Depending on where you live (including under GDPR and CCPA), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your data, and to object to certain processing. Contact us and we'll honor these rights for your anonymous account.

7. Not medical care

Phoenix is a self-help companion, not therapy, medical care, or a crisis service. If you are in danger or thinking about harming yourself, contact local emergency services, call or text 988 (US), or find a helpline at findahelpline.com.

8. Changes

We'll post any changes to this policy here and update the date above. Material changes will be highlighted in the app.
